Hansel Mieth Prize ceremony in Fellbach
Once again it was standing room only in Fellbach city hall: On May 7, 2009, Zeitenspiegel awarded the Hansel Mieth Prize for socially conscious feature reporting.

After a welcome speech by Fellbach mayor Christoph Palm and several readings from prize-winning features, Erdmann Wingert of Zeitenspiegel announced his resignation as committee chairman. “I’d like to give the next generation a chance,” he remarked.
Then the jury presented the winners, selected from among 145 submissions. “The Long White Line” by Roland Schulz, with photos by Luca Zanetti, appeared in Neon and describes the route taken by cocaine from a small family farm in Colombia to German streets. Stefan Scheytt and photographer Cira Moro were also recognized for their feature in Focus magazine on underage Americans serving life sentences, “Merciless America.”
