The 2021 Gabriel-Grüner Scholarship goes to author Karolina Kaltschnee and photographer Jasmina Hanf. The freelance journalists want to shed light on the situation of homosexuals in Poland. The scholarship is in memory of StrictReporter Gabriel Grüner, who was murdered on June 13, 1999, in Kosovo while on assignment, along with photographer Volker Krämer and translator Senol Alit.
For the Gabriel Grüner Scholarship, which is being awarded for the 21st time this year, 46 applications were received. It is endowed with 6,000 euros. Additionally, the author and photographer will receive a two-month residency scholarship from Akademie Schloss Solitude in Stuttgart.
In addition, the jurors made their decision for the Gabriel Grüner Student Prize for South Tyrol. The award, which the German Education Directorate in South Tyrol, together with Zeitenspiegel Reportagen, the Education Committee of the Municipality of Mals, and the South Tyrolean weekly magazine ff Awarded in 2021 to Ivan Gufler and Dominik Hofer. Their reportage „Invisible“ shows the harsh daily lives of bicycle couriers in Bolzano, the capital of South Tyrol.
