They will receive the renowned award for their Stern reportage <strong>\u201eA Life in Kabul\u201c<\/strong>, which tells the story of five Afghan brothers \u2013 a story that reflects the suffering of an entire country. The prize is endowed with 6,000 Euros.<\/p>\n<p>The Gabriel-Gr\u00fcner Scholarship 2013 goes to author Yasemin Ergin and photographer Marcel Mettelsiefen. The team plans a reportage about women in Tajikistan who have been left behind by their husbands searching for work abroad, numbering in the hundreds of thousands. The scholarship, also endowed with 6,000 euros, supports this project. Additionally, the author and photographer will receive a two-month residency scholarship from Akademie Schloss Solitude in Stuttgart.<\/p>\n<p>The award will be presented on April 25, 2013, in Fellbach near Stuttgart, and the scholarship on May 2, 2013, in Mals.<\/p>\n<p>As part of the Hansel-Mieth-Prize, where text and photos of committed reportages are evaluated equally, the following were also awarded:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<p><strong>\u201eThe Mayor of Hell\u201c<\/strong> (S\u00fcddeutsche Zeitung Magazin) by Michael Obert and Jan Grarup<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p><strong>\u201eThe Man Who Stopped the Desert\u201c<\/strong> (The Time) by Andrea Jeska (Text and Photos)<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p><strong>\u201eThe Incredible\u201c<\/strong> (S\u00fcddeutsche Zeitung Magazine) by Tobias Haberl and Jonas Unger<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p><strong>\u201eThe Neanderthals\u201c<\/strong> (Geo) by Christoph Reuter and Marcel Mettelsiefen<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p><strong>\u201eA journey of no return\u201c<\/strong> (Stern) by Laura Himmelreich and Michael Trippel<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p><strong>\u201eGod's mills\u201c<\/strong> (The Time) by Nadine Ahr and Joanna Nottebrock<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p><strong>\u201eMayer's War\u201c<\/strong> (Der Spiegel) by Alexander Osang and Espen Eichh\u00f6fer<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p><strong>\u201eBurned\u201c<\/strong> (Star) by Andrea Schaper and Nele Martensen<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p><strong>\u201eBetween the Fronts\u201c<\/strong> (Der Spiegel) by Christoph Reuter and Marcel Mettelsiefen<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The reports will be published in a book.<\/p>\n<p>This year, 110 and 61 applications were submitted for the prize and the scholarship, respectively.<\/p>\n<p>The agency Zeitenspiegel Reportagen commemorates its honorary member Hansel Mieth, who died in 1998 and worked as a photographer for the American magazine LIFE, dedicating herself to social issues, with the Journalist Prize.
