Life
Katharina Elsner completed her traineeship at the Weser Courier in Bremen and subsequently honed her journalistic skills at the Reutlingen Reportage School.
Your focus is on reports, radio features, and portraits – long-form formats based on thorough research, proximity to the protagonists, and narrative depth.
Katharina Elsner has been working for renowned media outlets like Deutschlandfunk for many years, and NDR as well as for newspapers and magazines like FAZ, Taz and The time. As a scholarship recipient of the „Riffreporter Masterclass Science Journalism,“ she has intensively engaged with topics such as robotics, caregiving, and life in old age.
Your works have received multiple awards. Among other things, one received NDRMedia awards for a feature about a football club involved in combating right-wing extremism, which is being targeted for its stance. NDRA colleague once described her working method this way: „Katharina carries a key within her that opens doors to people who actually wanted to keep them locked.“
This attitude shapes her journalistic work to this day. She considers research in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and the East German provinces particularly important—in places where social developments become visible but often receive little media attention.
