Life

Born in 1959, he hails from Daun (Eifel) and studied visual journalism under Professor Adolf Clemens in Dortmund.

Since graduating in 1992, he has worked for all major German-speaking and international magazines and newspapers such as GeoStarChrismonMirrorFocusNatureSea and The time. Member of the Zeitenspiegel reporting agency since May 2000.

Awards

  • 2017: Otto-Steinert-Prize 2017 Finalist with „12thMemoRise“ Young Muslims Against Violence and Terror
  • 2019: Shortlisted for the Vonovia Award with „12thMemoRise“ Young Muslims Against Violence and Terror
  • 2023: Shortlist for the Felix Schoeller Award 2023 in the Sustainability category
  • 2023: PR Image of the Year 2023 with „Flight from Ukraine“ and 1st Prize in the „NGO Image“ category“
  • 2024: VG Bild Art Grant „Entrenched Island“ Taiwan
  • 2024: 3rd place at „Black & White Spider Awards 2024“ with „Out of Ukraine #2“

  • From Ukraine

    On February 24, 2022, Russia invaded Ukraine. Around 8.5 million people subsequently fled their homeland. They reached the borders of neighboring Western countries on overcrowded trains, buses, on foot, or in cars. Many helpers welcomed the often traumatized and exhausted refugees. They could rest in reception camps behind the borders. Helpers provided them with food and clothing and brought them to safe accommodations.
