Art documentary about Filipino fishermen

On September 18, the documentary “Robinson, the Filipino Fisherman,” directed by Zeitenspiegel reporter Carsten Stormer, was first shown by Art broadcast.

Fischer Robinson

In the east of the Philippine island of Luzon, people have always made a living from fishing. However, global crises such as climate change and overexploitation threaten their existence. The fishermen have to fight for survival day after day in the Gulf of Lagonoy. In addition to rising water temperatures and the destruction of reefs, global overfishing is also decimating fish stocks.

The fishing couple Minerva and Robinson Lucito go tuna fishing, search for shellfish in the monsoon rain, and fight with the tuna mafia. The example of these two shows how climate change, overfishing, and reef destruction affect the lives of fishermen in the Gulf of Lagonoy – and how hard the family must work to survive. But despite all difficulties, the Lucitos do not lose their optimism and their love for the sea.

The 44-minute documentary “Robinson, the Filipino Fisherman – Hope Despite Empty Nets,” directed by Zeitenspiegel reporter Carsten Stormer, premiered on September 18, 2022, on Art first broadcast.

The movie is still showing until December 16, 2022 ArtMedia library available:
